Why Women Aren't as Happy as Men and What We Can Do About It

I recently had the privilege to shine a spotlight on an intriguing topic: Why Women Aren’t Happier Than Men and What We Can Do About It. My curiosity led me to commission a comprehensive study on happiness and resilience, in partnership with the Center of Generational Kinetics. The findings were nothing short of fascinating, and I was thrilled to share these insights with Fox 13 The Place earlier this month. Give it a watch below or read on to learn more.

The 2024 State of Happiness Research unveiled some compelling statistics that sparked my interest—and I'm sure they'll catch yours too. Surprisingly, 76 percent of men reported a higher overall happiness compared to 66 percent of women. Furthermore, men (82 percent) are significantly more likely than women (73 percent) to feel like they have a sense of purpose. This significant disparity raises an intriguing question—what can women do to bridge this happiness gap?

Three Strategies for Women to Improve Their Happiness

In my chat with Fox 13 The Place, I loved sharing three practical strategies that women can adopt to improve their happiness. These aren't just pie-in-the-sky ideas; they're real, research-backed approaches that can truly transform lives.

  • Never underestimate the power of spending time with family and friends. Human connection is crucial to our happiness.

  • Discovering and pursuing a sense of purpose can bring a profound sense of fulfillment and direction in life, which, in turn, contributes to overall happiness.

  • The practice of positivity—cultivating a positive outlook and appreciating the good in life—can transform our daily experiences and uplift our spirits.

With all this in mind, I think it’s time to close that gap! Don’t you, ladies? I’d love to know your thoughts on the study and if any of those three strategies resonate with you. Leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Cheering you on,

Michelle
