How‌ ‌to‌ ‌Market‌ ‌Yourself‌ ‌Like‌ ‌an‌ ‌Expert

As an expert in your field, I’m sure that one of the main questions you’re asking is, “How do I make more money selling myself in this business?” I’ve created an equation that spells out exactly what you need to build out your expert business and increase your revenue…

The key to my equation is to solve for Y. But before you start brushing up on your eighth-grade algebra, let’s go through each piece of the equation so you can understand that it’s actually easier than you think.

The Principles of Your Expert Business

Do you understand all of the principles that are helping you build out your expert business?

Content

The first thing you want to create is your content. It becomes so much easier to share your message when you’re firm on what you do, why you do, and what your expertise is in.

For your business, there are three ECs because you want to create 3 Types of Content to thrive online and off.

  1. Expert Content. This is the informational content that helps people understand your focus and expertise. Your blogs, podcasts, and social media posts all help you thrive by reaching the people you want to reach.

  2. Endorsement Content. In this day and age, with so many speakers and experts to pick from, it’s really important to create written, video, and audio testimonials to help people cut through the clutter  and understand why hiring you is the right choice.

  3. Earnings Content. This is the content that actually puts money in your pocket. Whether it’s a coaching program, a keynote speech, or a book, you need content that will bring you revenue.

Marketing Plan

Once you have the content piece in place, then you can start to market it in multiple places. That could mean putting ad spending behind your videos, or pushing a book you’ve written through distribution channels. The important thing to remember is that your marketing will work better for you with a plan! That’s what the P stands for. Make sure that you have a plan in place to create consistent content and market it.

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound? I don’t know. But I do know that if you don’t have a plan to get your content out to the people that matter, it will just stay on your site and no one will hear it. So create a solid plan not just to create consistent content, but to share that content through social media channels, on third-party media sites, and among friends so that you can promote each other.

Action

The best laid plans will only work if you act. That’s right, the A stands for action. What daily, weekly, and monthly actions will help you be successful in this plan? The best way to grow personally and professionally is to make a plan and then take action. Believe that your plan is going to work and continue to do it.

Every fall, I create an event called the Marketing Blueprint, and I love watching people come, create their plans for the new year, and then go out and actually do them! However, it breaks my heart when I run into people a year later who created the blueprint but didn’t do anything with it.

The only difference between those people and the successful people is action. Successful people pound the pavement and work every single day, week, and month to make their dreams a reality. So what are you waiting for? The best investment you will make is the investment in yourself. Time can either be your greatest asset or your greatest liability in building out your expert business. Block out time on your calendar, and then take action. That is where the money is.

Solve for YOU

Now, I told you we’d be solving for Y, and the Y is you. Building an expert business is not for the faint of heart. You need to believe that your message matters and that you are the only one who can deliver it in your unique way.

You can spend all day long comparing yourself to others and mimicking those who seem successful. But your business will expand faster as you include your experience and expertise. Infuse yourself into your content so that you separate yourself from the competition. Make sure that people are buying you and not buying your copy of someone else. They want to know what you have to offer and why you do it better.

By implementing this simple equation into your expert business, you will get what you ultimately desire: increased opportunities, increased speaking engagements, more book sales, and money in your pocket.

Know that I’m cheering you on as you make it happen!
