How and Why to Use Reels or TikToks In Your Social Media Strategy

Do you ever wonder why social media is so important to growing your business? Right now in the world, there are over 4.3 billion people using social media. Whether this is to keep in touch with friends or family or to grow your business, using any sort of social media platform can help. It is a crucial and essential way to reach your target audience, grow your brand, and gain insight. This is one of the fastest, most inexpensive ways to not only gain a following but increase your sales.

In order to get the best outcome from social media for your brand, you must first understand each platform. All platforms are relatively different, and what I mean by that is that Twitter is completely different from Tik Tok, and Instagram is vastly different from Snapchat. The use of Facebook differs a little from Instagram, but they do have a lot of the same functions. One of the most common functions that a lot of platforms are beginning to add to their websites is reels. Reels are videos that can be anywhere from 10 seconds long to 3 minutes. Reels can consist of anything you want them to. You can showcase new clothing items for your store, or have a video of yourself speaking about your business.

No matter what though, it is important to keep it entertaining and to the point in order to keep the viewer intrigued. TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook are the three platforms right now that have taken on the “reel” world. After TikTok started doing videos a few years ago and blew up, the other platforms decided it would be in their best interest to follow their lead. Because Instagram has been around longer than TikTok, most businesses already have a following on it, making it easier to gain views on their reels, rather than starting over again on TikTok. Reels on Instagram as of 2021 receive 22% more engagement than regular posts or stories. This is exactly why your business needs to make reels.

I am sure you have all heard someone next to you say “I think my phone is listening to me, I just got an ad for the shoes I was talking about!” This is not the case at all. Your phone is never listening to you, it just knows what you are interested in by tracking your likes, your friends' likes, and those you spend your time around. This is called an algorithm. “Both TikTok and Reels detect your interests and show you similar content. They analyze audiences identical to yourself and recommend the videos they suggest to users with similar behavior.” Using the algorithm to your favor can also help you grow your brand. Making reels targeted towards your exact audience is the best way to grow your market brand via reels. Reels are the fastest-growing feature throughout the entire world right now.

It is important that your brand takes the time to go through reels of other similar companies in order to see what aesthetic you are looking for on your social media. If you want a more business/ serious approach, or if you want it to be more playful and fun. One of the biggest assets to reels is customer involvement. No matter what approach you take, it is so important that your customers feel heard, involved, and important. Using reels can change the game for you, if done right. Keep it in mind for your next business meeting! It might just skyrocket your business.

Reel Idea: On Tik Tok or Instagram, use the trending sound “Run Boy Run”. On the first page write something along the lines of "why use _______" and showcase your product or service. i.e. In my case, I could say: “why use reels to market your business?” and then every ending beat, have a slide that says why reels are important.
