In a recent conversation on The Lisa Show, I joined host Lisa Valentine Clark to talk about what the research actually says about happiness and why it matters more than most people think.
Many of us grow up believing happiness is something that comes after the hard things. We tell ourselves we will be happy when the problem is solved, when the project is finished, or when life finally settles down.
But research shows something very different.
Happiness is not simply the reward for success or the absence of difficulty. It is one of the most powerful tools we have for navigating challenges in the first place.
In our conversation, I share how my work evolved from studying productivity and performance to researching the role happiness plays in resilience and well-being. Drawing on global research and my own studies, we discuss how people can actively strengthen their happiness through simple daily practices.
One of the ideas I share in the interview is creating a personal “joy list.” These are small activities that reliably lift your mood and help you reconnect with the things that bring energy and meaning into your life.
I hope this conversation reminds you that happiness is not something you have to wait for. It’s something you can practice right now, even in the middle of life’s challenges.
