How to Create a Powerful and Freeing "To Don't" List
Do you have a "To Don't List"?
If you've been here for a while you know I got my first Franklin Day Planner when I was 12 years old. I begged my mother to get me on for Christmas. My friends wanted Girbaud Jeans and Sony Walkmans and I wanted to plan my life!
That holiday break I wrote mission statements, set goals and prioritized to do lists. I've been a master of capturing tasks and ideas for THIRTY YEARS now. (That makes me feel old...) I've tried everything for tackling to do lists in physical and digital forms.
Over the years I have learned the power of a prioritized to do lists, but I've also learned that the TO DON'T list is even more powerful.
What does that look like? It's about acknowledging the things that you shouldn't be doing. Things that aren't worth your time (even Covey talks about eliminating the things that are both NOT time sensitive and NOT effective). Sometimes you shouldn't be doing things because OTHERS should be doing them. Sometimes you shouldn't be doing things because they don't match your values.
Whatever the reason, what's on your to DON'T list?
In this episode we don't just talk about the why's, we talk about the how's.
We'll talk about avoiding the SHOULDS and we'll even talk about how to handle the conversations and family encounters that belong on the TO DON'T list.
Thanks to my friends Lisa and Richie for having me back on The Lisa Show today!
